I am Nuria, from Barcelona-Spain. I left home with many questions, that were answered in Cameroon within one month!!!! When I was in Barcelona thinking about my trip to Cameroon the first thing that I thought was that I was going to a very poor country. Although it is true, Cameroon is a very rich place in terms of culture, humanity, environment and kindness. My question before going to Belo was if one month will be useful or not. I know that some people could be in the same situation than me, we cannot go there for longer because of work, family or different personal situations. After going I can tell that one month is useful. That is because my work doesn’t end now, however it starts with my trip from Belo-Cameroon. Now I know personally the situation there and needs and I can help from my own country-Spain. First of all, encouraging other volunteers to go to Belo and work with RUDEC-Cameroon. There is a lot of work to do in education, orphans, health, prevention of diseases, environment … From my point of view anyone that want to take part in these projects and have some sensitivity can help in RUDEC. There are different works to do, like: reinforce the children studies, teaching people to cultivate their own plants (as Geneen in July with the garden project), showing people how to grow up their own animals and take care of them, and loads of more ideas that one person can bring for helping to improve the actual situation. There are numerous illness and diseases throughout Africa and many of them could disappear or reduce just with some healthy education and vaccinations. Concerning about the work that one volunteer can do in Belo I would like to say that Joshua listen to all the ideas coming from the volunteers and try to do everyone of them with every effort and enthusiasm, Joshua is a great person and He wants the best for his community he is working very hard with RUDEC and all the people who collaborate with the organization. Another important thing is that I felt very free to carry out my ideas and projects. There are other ways to help, with the orphan project, one of the most important projects enrolled by RUDEC. You can sponsor children and help them to attend school because sometimes they cannot go to school just because they don’t have the fees, books or the uniform and they cannot afford it economically. Another reason for recommending this volunteer experience is that Belo is a very nice town, the scenery is beautiful and people are very kind. Furthermore usually there are other volunteers in the house and you can share your experience and knowledge with them. And finally one of the most important things there is the orientation of Joshua that makes you feel like in your own house. Finally the volunteers can show the organization in their own countries and try to do RUDEC more international to achieve all the challenges. Thank you Joshua, Geneen, all the children and Victorine for share with me this experience.
